SEROVA

Elena Olegovna

Hero of the Russian Federation

119th cosmonaut of our country, 537th cosmonaut of the World

Elena Serova (nee Kuznetsova), was born in the village of Vozdvizhenka in the Ussuri district of Primorsky Krai on April 22, 1976. Together with her family, in which her father was a serviceman, she moved several times, and graduated from high school in 1993 in the city of Grossenhain (Germany) in the Group of Soviet Troops in Germany. In the same year, Elena entered the Moscow Aviation Institute and at the same time worked as a technician at the Research Institute of Low Temperatures, established at the MAI.

After graduating from the Aerospace Faculty of MAI in 2001, she began working as an engineer at RSC Energia. In 2003, Elena Olegovna graduated from the Moscow State Academy of Instrument Engineering and Computer Science (MGAPI) with a degree in economics and thus received a second higher education.

Prior to joining the cosmonaut squad of RSC Energia in 2006, she worked in the Mission Control Center in the Main Operational Control Group as an engineer of the 2nd category. After completing general space training at the Gagarin Space Research Center in 2009, she was awarded the qualification of "test cosmonaut". Later, after the decision to create a single cosmonaut squad of Russia, in 2011 she joined the cosmonaut squad of the Roscosmos State Corporation.

On February 7, 2014, at the opening ceremony of the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi, she was honored to raise the flag of the Russian Federation together with a group of cosmonauts led by Sergey Krikalev.

Elena Serova made her only space flight lasting 167 days, 5 hours and 42 minutes from September 26, 2014 to March 12, 2015 as a flight engineer of the Soyuz TMA-14M spacecraft and the International Space Station, for which she was awarded the title of Hero of Russia.

In 2016, Elena Serova was elected to the State Duma, and therefore left the cosmonaut squad. Until 2021, Elena worked in the State Duma as Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection.

Currently, Elena Vladimirovna Serova works as an adviser to the Governor of the Moscow region A. Y. Vorobyov.
