Boris Belyanin’s Paintings

In January 2020, the artist's widow, Dolores, donated 95 paintings by her husband, Boris Belyanin, to the museum. These are works of art made in the technique of oil painting as well as pastels. In 2015, an exhibition dedicated to the 95th anniversary of the artist was held, and Dolores donated 19 paintings to the museum at the same time.

Boris Belyanin was born in Krasnoyarsk in 1925. His mother strongly supported the boy's craving for drawing. Boris graduated from the art studio of the Krasnoyarsk Palace of Culture where famous masters of the city gave lessons. In 1938, the thirteen-year-old boy was accepted into the group of professional artists. When the Great Patriotic War began, Boris went to work at a military factory at the age of 16. After the war, in a difficult, hungry time, he left to work in the North: at the mine in Vorkuta. He did not forget his art work. He painted portraits of production leaders, economists, party leaders. In the future, a workshop was allocated to Boris Belyanin and people helped him to enter the Moscow Correspondence People's University at the Central House of Folk Art named after N.K. Krupskaya at the Department of Painting and Drawing. Having graduated from it, Boris moved to Cherepovets. He worked as a graphic designer at the Cherepovets Steelworks, in the city food store, grocery store and other organizations. He got acquainted with the artists of the city of metallurgists.

He liked to draw flowers, ceramics, made compositions, still-life paintings. The artist was attracted by French paintings, namely the Impressionists. He was also interested in art books. As for artists, he liked Van Gogh, Saryan, Korovin. For many years, Boris Belyanin developed his own style of painting, searched for himself in his work studying the works of masters of the past and present. Belyanin’s style of painting, very unusual, is often called a mosaic. His world consists of dots, squares and resembles a patchwork quilt. Belyanin's paintings are a delightful combination of an amateur, slightly naive approach and unexpectedly high, professional outcomes.

Since 1967, the artist participated in all city and regional exhibitions. He was the organizer and participant of personal exhibitions in the cinemas of Cherepovets. In 1996, the Cherepovets branch of the Union of Artists of Russia provided Boris Belyanin with a personal workshop in which he held "Open Days" and organized a children's studio. In 1997, Boris Belyanin was admitted to the Union of Artists of Russia. In 2000, the artist was awarded a diploma from the Governor of the Vologda region, and in 2010, a gold medal from the Union of Artists of Russia. Boris Belyanin's works are exhibited in the Vologda Regional Art Gallery, the Cherepovets Museum Association, as well as in private collections in many countries of the world.

The art collection of the Belozersk Regional Museum of Local Lore presents the artist’s paintings in the technique of oil painting and graphics. These are landscapes, still-life paintings and several portraits. Boris Belyanin’s art works adorn the exhibitions of the museum and will continue to delight people of Belozersk and guests of our town.
